With his experience as a combat veteran with the Indian Army, having commanded an Infantry Rifle Company at Siachen, Lt Col (R) Dr Samir Rawat brings with him over two decades of experience in training and human resource optimization in the Armed forces. His leadership skills have actually been proven under fire, for which he was conferred a President’s gallantry award for recapturing enemy held positions in Batalik sector during the Kargil war in 1999, in which he also sustained injuries in the line of duty.
After his retirement from the army, Dr. Rawat has swiftly assumed a new mantle and is now an expert Cognitive-Behavioral trainer who uses an eclectic approach in teaching soft skills related to leadership and personality development, behaviour modification and Counseling, besides conducting faculty development and training of trainers (TOT) for academic, civil services, military & corporate institutions. He is a psychologist and facilitator with extensive experience in strengthening intrapersonal and interpersonal skills development with individuals and among teams. Much of his research effort focuses on applying Positive Psychology principles to academic, military & corporate contexts. His research interests vary from Soldier performance in combat and other dangerous life threatening military environment to optimal leadership, stress management and building highly cohesive teams under equally challenging conditions.
Dr. Rawat plays a key role in crafting personal growth strategies as well as creating long term benefits for organizational development. He has been a visiting faculty /guest speaker to many academic, corporate & military training institutions and is a regular consultant to senior Army leadership on matters pertaining to stress optimization, Soldier and Leader performance, and psychological fitness. His efforts revolve around improving psychological fitness and well being of Soldiers and their Families. Based on principles of Positive Psychology, he focuses on building and enriching of human strengths, their assessment, and evidence-based methods of enhancing emotional, social, family, and spiritual fitness of. Dr. Rawat was the Psychologist to the Army shooting team that won more than 10 gold medals in the 2010 Commonwealth games. He is a guest speaker at well known international think tanks and military institutions; he speaks regularly to Senior Command Course at the Army War College on matters of personal and organizational resilience building in context of challenges to military leadership.
Dr. Rawat has written, published as well as presented psychology and military papers in National as well as International conferences in India and abroad. He has also contributed extensively to military and academic journals of repute as well as been cited in leading national newspapers. A highly experienced soldier and leader, Major General Raj Mehta, AVSM, VSM (Retd) was commissioned in 1969 from the Officers Training School. Gen. Mehta retired from the Indian Army in 2006, after years of service to the nation. Gen. Mehta has commanded both Armoured and Infantry units and formations. While in command of 1 Sector Rashtriya Rifles in Kashmir, Gen. Mehta sustained serious gunshot wounds during an encounter with Pakistani terrorists, but was allowed to continue in command at his request. The President of India has honoured him on two occasions for distinguished war-zone service. Gen. Mehta brings with him an innate understanding of leadership at the highest levels, and in efficiently managing and operating large organizations such as the army. This enables him to provide frontline insights into the workings of organizations and how they function.
Gen. Mehta has taught at the National Defence Academy and Defence Services Staff College. Outside of uniformed service, Gen. Mehta has been a motivational speaker, he has been teaching students across profession, gender and age.
